H&M CONFIRMS MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA COLLABORATION

Swedish fashion retailer H&M confirmed that its next collaboration will be with French fashion house Maison Martin Margiela. The fashion house will produce an autumn/winter 2012 collection that will include garments for men and women, as well as accessories and that it will hit 230 stores worldwide and H&M’s website on November 15. H&M also highlighted that the designs will be the "work of a group rather than one designer". Maison Martin Margiela fashion is “conceptual and timeless” in style, and describes the values and the ideas of the collection as “anonymity, whites, and ambiguity” and it will go wellwith H&M’s concept as “fashion and quality at the best price”. “Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades,” said Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M. “I am so excited by this collaboration which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by Maison Martin Margiela. This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment.” Maison Martin Margiela added: “We are very happy to present Maison Martin Margiela pieces with H&M, offering a new interpretation of our vision. The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all.” Maison Martin Margiela is the eighth designer to join forces with H&M. Recently, the retailer announced a collaboration with style icon Anna Dello Russo, which will hit stores in October.

A GREEK FASHIONISTA IN NYC

Sofia Karvela is of Greek nationality and resides in NYC, in the heart of great opportunities for work and pleasure. I get to know Sofia long long time ago when we used to live in the same neighborhood and attend the same school. We then followed separate paths and now here we go again after internet evolution, we found out that we share the same passion for fashion, new ideas, innovative techniques, styling, and the notion of never giving up. Here is an interview of my friend, Sofia for those who are willing to get into the mind of a person with great potential who has great instinct on what the fashion world really needs.
1) Wealth or glory?
Glory comes with a high price.
2) Relationships: Choose between a good friend or a good love partner. A best friend I am attracted to enough to sleep with on a rainy day.
3) Give me some good reasons of working in the fashion industry:
The chaos. The hurry. The good taste. The beautiful people. The vanity. The bulshit. The season. And i'm too lazy to go to school and study psychology.
4) I guess in NYC you have met occasionally many famous personalities. Who is your dream one that you have not yet met and you would like to have a drink with?
I really want to have milk with Shilo Jolie Pitt one day.
5) Which place would you like to visit in the coming years?
India for fabrics and a reality check.
6) I was lucky to get to know you during teens. I still remember the echo from your laughing in my ears. Are you still positive and strong despite the brutality in our world?
I laugh at myself more than ever. I laugh so hard I end up crying. Im an extremist. And the truth is that the world doesn't treat me half as mean as I treat myself sometimes. I tend to reward myself though when I feel im too harsh. With gum and diet cokes.
7)What urged you to transform T-shirts into creative blouses? Give me some ideas on how you think when you create an what is your moto:
It was anxiety that urged me to start shedding shades on T-shirts. I am a stylist not a designer and I stick to what I know. I work as a creative director for 2 tshirt companies and I get to collaborate with a team that can carry out and really build upon the ideas and styles I have in mind. It takes a lot to create a line and I am not qualified to do so. I enjoy finding the pieces and telling a story. The truth is I am not an artist. I just try to think like one.

MUST-HAVES OF THE MOMENT

It is true that I love fashion, I love the idea of dressing for a mood and of looking and feeling great.
This summer... besides sun-screen?
I think this is the season to spend less!
Other than one great look for any summer wedding I will attend, I will follow these rules:

1. Great Skin.
2. Great Hair.
3. Great Attitude: Sometimes the best accessory a girl can have is a friendly smile and a kind word.
4. Clothes that you feel comfortable with: Lose pants, T-shirts, greek style nude sandals.
5. Get some sun so that you look healthy. (Do not forget to get protection, body and face).

6. Light nailcolors lke soft pink, yellowish, light blue.
7. Lightweight scarves for a stylish appearence.
8. Drink plenty of water, fresh juices an iced tea to feel better and have a better function of your inside organs.
9. Make up: During the day cleansing and a color SPF hydrating cream is enough to fight high temperature. In the evening: Eyelashes pencil, blush for cheeks and bones and lipgloss are more than enough.
10. A lightweight summer dress.
11. Casual pants and skirts, a stack of flimsy t-shirts in black, grey and white.
12. Outfit for an event: I would choose among: Blamain, Proenza Shouler, Balenciaga and Philosophy di Alberta Ferreti.
13. Do not forget to pick some interesting books of your taste for the beach! Mine? Out of Our Minds by Ken Robinson, who tries to promote an evolution of creativity in education.
14. Ipod to listen to my favorite music wherever I am.
15. Friends and family.

Yours, Angela

DIANA VREELAND AFTER DIANA VREELAND-One of the best exhibitions ever in Venice!

One of the greatest major exhibitions of life and work of the fashion editor Diana Vreeland happens now in Venice, Italy. It is hosted at Palazzo Fortuny and it is about to last up to June 26, 2012. Vreeland was fashion editor at Harper's Bazaar, then editor in chief at Vogue and now special Consultant for the Costume Institut at New York's Metropolitan Museum. Venice offers an airport with a non stop flight for those who are willing to attend.
Looking forward to finding time to visit this fantastic exhibition, I am ok with the reading of "Allure" Diana Vreeland foreword by Marc Jacobs to get to the point, a book I bought from a bookstore near my house. It is full of excellent pictures of people that have infuenced Vreeland and through her professional career they have left a stigma on her, like Maria Callas and Nureyev.
